We at Pucará CMS do not believe there is a superior style, but many styles and it is the individual that makes the difference.
Pucará CMS builds from its two core disciplines of Taekwondo and Hapkido to include aspects of many other arts like Kali/ Escrima, Tang So Do, GongKwon Yusul, Judo, Kickboxing etc. in order to teach you how to be effective across all ranges of combat.
Pucará is a word that in the Quechua language spoken by the ancient Incas in South America means a high fortress. The Inca Empire protected its frontiers with fortresses for its warriors high in the Andes mountains, from which they would descend on their enemies with devastating ferocity.
Martial Arts were developed as training techniques for actual warfare and not simple self defence. All moves emanate from the use of the sword but sadly this has been lost in the modern teaching of Martial Arts in the West. Thus we introduce the use of sticks and swords from our very first class to return our arts to their source of inspiration. However, Martial Systems or Arts differentiate themselves from simple fighting techniques in as much as they aspire to develop the individual also. Thus in ancient centres of learning like the Shaolin Temple, students in the Path to Enlightenment used the arts to develop physically and mentally from within a place of security. Similarly in the Islamic tradition, dervishes in search of direct experience of God secluded themselves into fortresses called Ribats or Zawwiyas in order to perfect themselves as Holy Warriors and expand the divine realm in this world. Also European chivalric orders adopted this outlook into their training, developing ancient traditions like the Knights Templar, the Hospitaliers, Teutonic Knights and others.
